Thank You!
A special shout out goes out to Destini's mom who, when picking up her daughter's Girl Scout sash, purchased Girl Scout hair bands for the troop.
All the girls LOVED them and immediately put them on. I told the girls that it made me sad that I have short hair :)
Thank you for thinking of us and keeping us "in style"!
Journals - MAGAZINES NEEDED
The girls are making personalized journals out of inexpensive composition books (my sample is pictured above).
We told girls on Friday that they can continue to cut out pictures/words from magazines they have at home (after first asking!) and bringing them in this Friday to add to their collection. The girls are going to need letters to spell out their names and probably about 20 other items (other words/phrases or pictures).
They should be looking for a variety of sizes in order to create some contrast and should be able to pick one thing (word/picture) to be their focal point (usually the biggest item).
We did run out of magazines and are doing an all call to parents to send in magazines if you can on Friday.
Thank you for your continued help and support!
Our Meeting 9/24
We had another great meeting this week. Girls finished making their friendship braclets and we started our next project, a personalized journal.
We ran into a painting problem with the journals but girls rallied nicely and we moved on to cut out magazine pictures/words for the cover. Next week we hope to have those finished.
Girls are also excited about the upcoming Honey Horn trip. We talked about earning the $3 for the trip so feel free to make a list of chores :)
The swimming badges are on order and as soon as they come in they will be handed out.

November Event - MARK YOUR CALENDARS
I am very excited to annouce that we have booked an event, to coincide with our Wildlife Badge, with the Coastal Discovery Museum for Saturday, November 13th.
The tentative agenda is as follows (with more details to come):
10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Beach Field Study
11:30 - 12:30 a.m. Bagged Lunch
1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Salt Marsh Explorers
The event is going to be led by the Director of Eduction and excellent teacher and wildlife educator (and a good friend of Mrs. Heatons).
The cost will be $3 per person (our troop will off set the full cost with cookie sale money from last year). We strongly encourage parents to have the girls earn the money through chores :)
As we get closer to the date, we will post more details. Until then....mark your calendar and start earning that $3!

How To - Make Friendship Bracelets
Our Meeting - September 17, 2010
Today was a fun day in Girl Scouts. We started with a get to know you bingo game that Ms. Nichelle introduced to the girls.
There was quite a lot of paperwork we passed out today (permission slip for swimming, Girl Scout registration form, and transportation form). This is pretty typical at the start of a new troop. We had the girls look over the snack schedule and realized we had missed four girls (oops!). The list will be redone and reposted to include those we missed.
We looked over the blog and showed the girls how they can make comments. As we work on our technology badge they will get more into blogging and learning about internet safety. Permission slips will go home to allow girls to blog and post pictures hopefully next week. Currently I have verbal permission from a few parents so pictures, at the moment, will be limited to those girls only.
We also discussed the requirements for the swimming badge we are working on. Girls watched a short YouTube clip that was downloaded about water safety and how to use a snorkel. Please note we told the girls if they don't feel comfortable with any of the swim activities they could simply let us know and they could pass without penalty.
Girls also learned how to make friendship bracelets out of yarn. We didn't have time to finish but they got to take their practice bracelet home. We will probably finish those up next week.
Need to Borrow
If anyone has a set of pool rings or sticks that we can use for this Saturday we would love to borrow them (you will get them back). One of the requirements for our swim badge is to retrieve items from the bottom of the pool. Please shoot me an email or comment on this post if you can help. Thank you!
Collecting - Soda Pop Tops
Our troop is collecting soda pop tops for the fun braclet craft pictured above (thanks Caroline and mom for the craft idea!).
Each girl will need approximately 18 soda tops to complete this craft. Please start collecting now. As soon as we get enough we will work it into our troop schedule.
Thank you!

Swimming Badge
The first badge we will be working on will be the Junior swimming badge. We will use the YMCA pool on Saturday, September 18th from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Girls will need to bring their swim suit and towel. We will provide a snack and drink.
Information will go home with students at next Friday's meeting.
Our First Meeting
Girls used Mossy Oaks' new ActivExpressions, a computerized response system, to vote on the badges they would like to work on this year. Popular badge choices included swimming, dance, and anything to do with winter :)
Uniform Information
Our troop does not require the wearing of a uniform at every meeting. We will be going on trips and representing our troop at various functions where we will encourage students to wear their uniform (vest or sash only). We are going to leave the decision to purchase the vest or sash up to each parent with the understanding that no girl/family will be penalized for choosing not to make that purchase.
Uniforms can be purchased online or at Buff's in Beaufort.
The picture above shows the correct placement of material on the vest or sash once we start earning badges. To see a larger version of this picture simply click on it and it will expand in another window.
Pick Up Times
Due to several problems last year we are going to be very strict with pick up times this year.
All girls must be picked up on time at 4:30 p.m. in the front circle of the school.
Three tardy pick ups will result in removal from the troop.
We appreciate your understanding.
Welcome - Troop 10 Juniors
Welcome to our Troop 10 Junior blog! This blog will provide information to our troop parents and students about upcoming activities, events, and important information pertaining to our troop. Please feel free to post a comment or question. All comments will come to the troop leader for approval before being posted on the blog.
Girls and parents will be introduced to this blog in our first meeting, as it will become an important communication tool throughout the school year.
Again, welcome and we are looking forward to a great Girl Scout year :)
