Hunting Island Video Slideshow

We had a great time on our Hunting Island field trip Saturday. The weather was excellent (couldn't have asked for a better day) and the girls were awesome. After we learned about sea turtles we ate our lunches and climbed to the top of the lighthouse (all 167 stairs!). Thank you parents for the bagged lunches and adhering to the prompt pick up and drop off times

Above is a slideshow that we put together using Mrs. Heaton's and Mrs. Tyson's pictures of the event. It is embedded on YouTube but on a secure unlisted channel that you can only get to from this blog. Enjoy!

Meeting 10/15

We couldn't get the video of Hairspray to work today (boooooo!!!!). The girls were troopers and handled it very well (yay!!!!!!!). Luckily it was a BEAUTIFUL day and the girls got an opportunity to socialize and play outside. We told them that we would regroup and try again another Friday.

On the plus size Ms. Tyson did an OUTSTANDING job with our Kidsville pumpkin entry. She took all the girls patches and made our own pumpkin "patch" :)

Our pumpkin, and the others collected, will be on display at Lobeco Farms and then auctioned off, with proceeds going to CAPA.

Swim Badge Update

I followed up on our swim badge order was told they have been back ordered. I got a call that they are expected in this week and they will send out as soon as they come in.

Once they come in they will be passed out to girls at our meeting. Thank you for your patience!

Sea Turtle Event - THIS SATURDAY

Just a reminder that this Saturday, October 16th is the Sea Turtle event at Hunting Island.

Time: Meet at Mossy Oaks at 10 a.m. with a firm departure time of 10:15 a.m. Girls will be returning anywhere between 2-3 p.m. (we will make phone calls as we get ready to leave Hunting Island). All girls must have someone to pick them up at Mossy Oaks (if you need to make other arrangements, please talk to one of the troop leaders).

Permission Slips: Signed permission slips will be required for all girls.

Dress: Girls must wear jeans and sneakers. We are recommending a white shirt and their girl scout sash or vest if they have one (if not...no worries...jeans and a white shirt is fine).

Transportation: We will carpool as much as possible. Those girls riding with other parents will be required to sign a waiver at drop off.

Food: Girls will eat lunch at approximately 1 p.m. at the base of the lighthouse. Please pack a lunch and drink for your daughter. We recommend a light snack prior to leaving due to the later lunch time.

If time permits we might explore the beach or climb the lighthouse. We will not be swimming (so no swimsuits or towels please!).

If you have any questions, please contact one of the troop leaders.

Meeting 10/8

We finished up our journals at this week's meeting with a coat of decoupage on the cover and making our beaded book marks. They turned out great! All journals went home with girls at the end of the meeting

Girls also helped us with a pumpkin decorating project when they were done with their journals. We entered our troop into the Kidsville pumpkin decorating contest. At the end of the contest pumpkins will be raffled off by Kidsville Magazine to support CAPA.

We are dressing up our pumpkin like one of our girl scout patches. Girls helped by drawing other patches to go on the sash. Ms. Tyson (our super talented Asst. Girl Scout leader) is working on the pumpkin this weekend (due to the short turn around time). We got a pretty impressive pumpkin and I can't wait to see the finished project.

Please note, two permission slips went home with girls at this last meeting. One is for our movie "night" and the other was for the turtle program next Saturday. We need the turtle paper work back as soon as possible to establish a head count for the Hunting Island staff. That can be dropped off with homeroom teachers or with Ms. Tyson, Ms. Perry, or myself.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our troop :)

Turtle Program at Hunting Island - Oct. 16th

Our Girl Scout service area (363) has organized a FREE turtle program at Hunting Island State Park on Saturday, October 16th at 11 a.m. The program will last approximately 2 hours and would be followed up with lunch at the beach (please bring your own lunch).

Girls will earn a Sea Turtle "Try-It" badge unique to Girl Scouts in this area.

They are strongly strongly strongly encouraging car pooling to keep parking costs down.

This is a great Girl Scout (and educational) opportunity for the girls and we hope we can get a group from our troop to go.

Information will go home with the troop this Friday (Oct. 8th). Please return as soon as possible so we can give a head count. Thank you!

Movie "Night"

As part of our work on our dance badge our troop will be watching a musical at our October 15th meeting.

The girls voted at our last meeting and we will be watching the movie "Hair Spray" (which beat out Anne and Summer Magic). The movie is rate PG and we will send home a permission slip at the October 8th meeting for both the movie and late pick up time of 5:30 p.m. (instead of 4:30 p.m.).
The girls are excited and are looking forward to this event!

Meeting - 10/1

We spent our meeting this past week working on our journals, cutting out magazine pictures and words and painting our covers. We should finish this project at our next meeting with decoupaging.
